Searching for my own name

A film made by Pablo García Pérez de Lara.

Based on real events and inspired by the book Nueve Nombres (Editorial Temporal) by psychiatrist and feminist María Huertas Zarco .

SYNOPSIS

In 1974, a group of 200 women were transferred by bus from the Provincial Psychiatric Hospital of Valencia, popularly known as the Jesús asylum, to the new Bétera Psychiatric Hospital (Valencia). Many had been confined in Jesús for more than thirty years and arrived in Bétera without medical records and, in some cases, without even names.

This story is a reminder of those women and the young professionals, men and women, who welcomed them in Bétera and accompanied them with a renewed perspective, based mainly on listening and the idea - revolutionary at the time - that those women were also people.
